Detailed Description

This course is designed for confident and experienced learners who have completed at least four years of part-time study or the equivalent before joining this class. The language element will include listening, speaking, reading and writing skills developed through the study of authentic materials. Practical advice on grammar will be integrated as appropriate. You will be encouraged to study language for your own specific needs. This is a student-centred course. The cultural part of the course will explore the literature, song, art, history, geography and institutions of the country.

This is a learner-centered course, drawing on the experience and knowledge of class members as well as topics from literature and the media to stimulate discussion, debate and linguistic analysis and development. There is an opportunity for preparation, presentation and discussion of individually prepared/ chosen topics.

These may include discussion and skills development based around reading 20th century Italian Literature pieces, current newspaper articles, individual items can be presented and discussed in class. There will be some grammar tuition in this class. Reading, writing and grammar exercises will be done at home generally with feedback eith individuall via email or in class. Presentations in class on any topic will be encouraged. 

Speaking skills will be developed through a range of topics, which may include current affairs, culture, history, and literature. Various resources, such as articles from Italian magazines, newspaper articles, movie trailers, and videos, will be used to enhance learning.
