Enhancement Activities

Our Enhancement Activities are only for students studying Foundation Years in Psychology, Arts & Humanities, Business & Management or Social Sciences.

 

We may offer places to non-foundation students if they are available closer to the date of the event. Please email FDNstudents@sussex.ac.uk if you would like to be added to the waiting list.

Should any of our events be sold out, please contact FDNstudents@sussex.ac.uk to be added to the waiting list for the event you are interested in.  You will then be contacted should a place become available.

King Lear at the Globe Theatre with Introductory Lecture - October 2017

Join us on a trip to see King Lear at the Globe Theatre with an introductory talk by Prof. Michael Dobson of The Shakespeare Institute.

King Lear has three daughters, but no sons. Boldly he makes a decision to divide his kingdom among his children, but fails to anticipate the consequences of his actions. His generosity is cruelly repaid and Lear finds himself adrift, wandering homeless and destitute. As he comes to realize the false values by which he has lived, he finally encounters his own humanity.

Hamlet at Glyndebourne - October 2017

Join us on a trip to see Hamlet at Glyndebourne, one of the world’s greatest opera houses. Shakespeare’s quintessential tragedy will be given new life in Composer Brett Dean and Librettist Matthew Jocelyn’s new operatic retelling.

Prince Hamlet is summoned home to Denmark to attend his father's funeral, he is shocked to find his mother Gertrude already remarried. The Queen has wed Hamlet's Uncle Claudius, the dead king's brother. Claudius has had himself crowned King despite the fact that Hamlet was his father's heir to the throne. Hamlet suspects foul play.

Basquiat: Boom for Real is the first large-scale exhibition in the UK of the work of American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960—1988).

Basquiat, a famously self-taught artist, sampled from an extraordinary breadth of source material, from anatomical drawings to bebop jazz. This is the first exhibition to focus on the artist’s relationship to music, text, film and television, offering new research that will enable some of his most acclaimed paintings and drawings to be understood as never before.

In Lola Arias' MINEFIELD six Falklands/Malvinas war veterans who once faced each other across a battlefield now face each other across a stage.

Minefield is a collaboratively crated work that merges theatre and film to explore the minefield of memory, where truth and fiction collide.
